Today's the day ...................... to bump

Spent the weekend with good friends Sue and Ken, who live within spitting distance of the river in Cambridge. Today was the final day of the bumps, a very complicated competition beween rowing 'eights' from the Cambridge University Colleges.

The bumps are held over four days in February and June. The course runs between Baits Bite Lock and First Post Corner where crews line up along the bank at positions one and a half boat lengths apart. If they manage to 'bump' into the crew ahead, their starting position in the following day's race is improved. If you see a team wearing willow branches - you know it has been successful in 'bumping' another boat.

This is the very successful Downing College Womens 1st Team who finished overall winners ......................
