House of Leaves
This afternoon I attended the first plenary lecture of the Symbiosis conference at Glasgow University. Caroline Rody gave a fascinating talk on the topos of the great house in US and British fiction.
The Q & A that followed proved it to be a great crowd-sourcing event as we seemed to go round the room one by one mentioning other novels that she might also consider, but didn't refer to. One suggestion that particularly intrigued me was House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski, a title I accidentally mimicked as I took out my camera for the first time today, on the Maryhill line, just past Summerston station.
