Ringlet

When the County Council built the West Stafford bypass (it must be over 20 years now - how time flies!) they set seeds of a variety of wild flowers on the roadside embankments.

These verges have developed into excellent wildlife havens and today in less than 15 minutes I found four species of orchid and lots of butterflies, the commonest of which were ringlets Aphantopus hyperantus. From above they are darker brown than the meadow brown, and the underwings have conspicuous telltale yellow-ringed eye-spots.

I've back-blipped from yesterday here.
