There but for the grace of god....
We had a summer party today, impromptu and not too many people could make it as it was so last minute, but those who came I think had fun, we drank too much, ate too much, but you can't laugh too much or enjoy too much. It was to celebrate a number of things, Tom being home now from France, Popz being home from Australia, the boys finishing up their exams, My birthday tomorrow, Emma's Birthday tomorrow, Emma going off to the Seychelles for 6 months....just our family and a few friends. (Well, about 20 of us in total. Good number.)
So much to be grateful for. Lots of photos to choose from, but my blip today I knew from the instant I took it, for it left a lump in my macho throat as I saw this picture of joy approach us whilst out taking Dilly for his walk.
Apart from being the most amazing contraption the likes of which I had not seen before, which is obviously what first caught my eye, the most poignant feature of this shot was a combination of the immense joy this sweet girl was experiencing from her ride, wind blowing in her face and the even greater pleasure her mother was deriving from being able to grant that joy to her daughter by doing something most of us can take for granted.
They both beamed as I took the photograph and I turned and watched them as they sped past us, their excitement audible from 50 yards behind us. I found myself thinking...'what a fantastic mum'. We made our way back to the car, my boys laughing and joking with each other 5 yards ahead of me. We have a lot to be grateful for.
