All hail the Jet Stream

The warmest day for three years, so they say. So after school, I took Emma down to the beach where she, or more precisely, I made lots of sand castles. E tried to transport as much water as she could from the sea to the moat but not surprisingly the damp sand would be unlikely to deter many marauders. I've given this blip a filter effect that reminds me of the photos of me on this beach fifty years ago.

The jet stream, to me, is the key to weather forecasting in this country, as if the ribbon of high, fast winds pass south of England, the weather will be nowhere near as warm as when the jet stream moves north, as it did earlier today. At the moment (Monday evening) it looks like the ribbon is going to sweep west to east while still blowing south to north!

Once it has passed, we will be north of the ribbon, bringing cooler weather until the ribbon passes over again. Anybody interested in this phenomenon can view the latest maps here.

Thanks also to all those folks who kindly sent congratulations on my 100th blip yesterday. Strangely, this addition of this 1 Blip has rolled my total today round to 102? How did that happen?
