Castle of Mey
Today's the day .................... to visit the castle
Visited the Castle of Mey today - the holiday home of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother who rescued it from ruin in the early 1950s. It is right on the coast - about five miles west of John O'Groats - and has a spectacular view over the Pentland Firth to Orkney.
She found it soon after she became a widow on the untimely death of her huband King George VI and she put all her energies into restoring it into a comfortable, friendly place to escape to whenever she was able. The walled garden was a particular favourite.
Today it was sunny, full of colour and perfume from all the flowers and humming with bees and butterflies. No wonder she loved it so much .............
