Reach for the sky
My lunchtime wanderings took me past Liverpool parish church today. The church has been destroyed a couple of times over the years - most recently in a bombing raid in December 1940 - and this sculpture by local artist Tom Murphy now stands in the churchyard as a memorial to all those who lost their lives in the Blitz.
The child holding the toy plane always gives me a bit of a shiver and especially at the moment makes me think of what's going on in Libya - and all people who've been killed by aerial bombardment in the names of war, peacekeeping and religion since it first became an option in World War 1.
