Day's End
P and I sailed (or motored) 38 nautical miles today. We left Genoa Bay on Vancouver Island @ 11AM and returned at @7PM. No we did not intend to end up where we started. ;-) But we followed the wind. A blistering 18 knots on the nose this morning in Satellite Channel. Under a reefed main and headsail we made great speed often touching 7 knots!!
We decide to explore Saanich Inlet down to Tod Inlet at Buchart Gardens (WAY TOO CROWDED FOR US THIS WEEKEND!!) and continued on down to the very end at Goldstream Provincial Park. Most of this on a beam sail. Some motor. Lunch underway. ;-)
We debated anchoring out at the end of the Inlet but while the inlet was very pretty the end was not very inspiring AND besides we hadn't had enough sailing. So we sailed back down the inlet on jib alone with 10- 15 knots of wind. A magnificent sail and gorgeous scenery. Motor on about 5PM outside Brentwood Bay. At that point anchoring safely and soon was in order SO we are now swinging happily on the hook back in Genoa Bay.
This blip was taken as we motored toward our anchorage. It shows a piece of Cowichan Valley in the far distance. The headland on the right is just before Genoa Bay. It might rain tonight. The clouds are telling a tale of shifting weather.
