The Greek Golden Kebab
1. Dinner at the Greek Golden Kebab tonight. I love going here. Love it. Before we leave we meet at mine to get ready. I curl my hair and bring out a summer dress that hasn't been out in a while.
2. We pop the champagne that mum gave me and have quick toast before strolling over to the restaurant. This place used to be at the bottom of my street, now it's a ten minute walk.
3.There are just six booths in the Greek Golden Kebab and it's run by a large lovely cypriot woman and her mother. Floor to ceiling is covered with murals, photographs, fake plants, fairy lights and assorted trinkets. The reason we have extra love for it is because long before we came here, we knew this place existed. It features in John Byrne's Tutti Frutti. This is where Mr Clockerty conducts his shady meetings and Suzi Kettles is told to bring Danny McGlone to tell him he's been papped out the Majestics. We are both pleased and secretly a little sad that the menu doesn't actually offer 'Chicken Harry Lauder' or 'Sea Bass Armenian style'. We look every time though, just in case.
4. The food is so good. We leave with big smiles on our faces then walk home. It's a summers evening. We haven't had a proper one of these for a while. We walk through the show ground and when reach home the view from my window shows all is quiet and twinkly.
5. Home for the last of the champagne and some fatcat records podcasts.
