Another Brick in the Wall
It WAS a long night. KLM has a miserable selection of films and food. It was exactly the same menu on the way back as on the way out, although at least on this flight I did get coffee and an entertainment system that worked. I watched 'Paul' which I'd missed at the multiplex, I tried to get comfortable and couldn't. Walking round and round the rear of the plane I discovered the free KLM snacks and ended up eating mini Mars bars at 3 a.m. - I don't even LIKE Mars bars. The ache in my back wasn't getting any better and I'd forgotten to include the ibuprofen in my 'by my seat' bag - luckily the crew had paracetemol and after that I did get a couple of hours sleep before the baby at the end of the row woke up and the lights went on for breakfast, NOT recommended. However, at least we arrived 30 minutes early at 5.30 a.m. Amazing how busy Schiphol is at that time of day.
By now I was reading the Kate Atkinson I'd bought on the way out so tried to get some rest, bought some more 'J'Adore' and proceeded to the gate.
Back in Edinburgh 15 minutes early I was welcomed by cold, drizzle and low cloud - couldn't even see the top of the Pentlands. Well it IS a Scottish summer.
I was home by 9.30 a.m. (the worst bit is always dragging the 20+ kg suitcase up the 3 flights of stairs) so I've done the mail, unpacked, washed the clothes (not urgent as there won't be much call for shorts and strappy t- shirts in the next few days) and been to see my parents. 'Surrogate Pink Floyd' was parked on Oswald Road - but the website doesn't exist, so maybe they don't either. But it was either that or another shot of KLM planes at Schiphol.
Late afternoon - I've said hello to and fed Molly the cat and caught up with #3 son and now I'm off to see #2 son and keep going till 10 p.m. when I guess I can go to bed in UK rather than KL time. I don't do jet lag, I don't DO jet lag.
