The Trot of the Hose Monitor It is Mirl's turn to "run the hose." With a healthy aversion to water, Mirl and Sidd do hose checks twice daily. Any small leak can turn into a vicious geyser quickly, significantly ruining any nap in range of its jet. Feline legends are full of stories of the "Purfect Drench" when all the elements of a disaster - the deep nap, ancient hose, major hemorrhage and nowhere to run - come together. All hoses are suspect - in or out of the greenhouses. If a leak is spotted, the "runner" must race over to Dave the Slave, bite his ankles, run back to the leak (safely out its horrible squirt) and nose-point to it. Usually this process must be repeated several times as Dave the Dim doesn't always get the idea the first time. (Although there is the suspicion that he really does, but doesn't respond quickly out of sheer meanness. If he only fully grasped what a true pussy catastrophe water can be.) Poor, poor pussies - so misunderstood.
