Jerry Gergich is a character in Parks and Recreation whose coworkers always mock and ignore. Although overweight and clumsy, he's a talented artist and often brings up good points during staff meetings only to be overlooked by everyone else.
While I'm not made fun of by my coworkers (hopefully not!), I often feel ignored. It's glaringly obvious that a few of them don't take me seriously at all (perhaps because I'm deaf) and a few others treat me like a leper (definitely because I'm deaf). However, everyone else is fantastic -- I work with an amazing group of people. There's a bad apple or two in every bunch.
Some days I can relate to Jerry, some days I don't. I suppose it comes with being deaf. Many people don't realize that in every situation, I'm automatically an outcast unless I make an effort to prove that I'm in fact normal (or am I....?)
I'm tired of constantly trying to prove myself, but I have no choice. Sometimes I just don't even make an effort and let people think whatever they want to think.
