Dazzle Painting

We were called for another taxi job to the RobRay T-3 this afternoon. On our way we came across this modern Anchor Handling Supply Tug. Her paint system reminded me of Dazzle painting. Dazzle, also called Razzle Dazzle, is a painting technique used by the Navy during the early 1900s to disguise ships from the enemy. The technique involved painting the entire visible exterior of the ship, including hull and deck components, in black and white stripes. The stripes were angled and embedded within an irregular geometric pattern to create a visually discordant appearance. Although the ship's presence was not hidden, the inability to identify parts of the ship was impaired, making it difficult to determine the size, shape, and model of the ship from a distance.

Here is a painting of a very famous ship painted in dazzle.
