Florida Sea Base

First, a little bit of information about Florida Sea Base. It is a Boy Scout High Adventure Base located on Lower Matecumbe Key in Florida. It's a pretty small base. Scouts come here to learn about sailing and other water activities such as snorkeling and scuba diving. Our trip was a week on a sailboat, sailing through the keys and snorkeling every day.

I had to get up at 2:00 this morning to be at the train station parking lot by 3:00. We took an hour long van ride to JFK and waited for at least forty-five minutes on lines. Then Harrison caused a slight ruckus in security but we all got through okay. On the flight a man was having some medical complication that involved a flight attendant bringing him a container of oxygen. It stirred up quite a bit of uneasiness throughout the plane. He ended up being fine but it was still freaky. When we landed (8:30) we found out that our bus that was supposed to take us to Sea Base broke down. We ended up sitting in some room we found in a strange part of the Miami airport for two hours. When the bus finally arrived at 11:00, we got in and it smelled horrible. It smelled like someone went to the bathroom in the air conditioning vents and the stench circulated around the entire bus. It was pure hell for an hour, then a nice respite for a delicious lunch, and then back into hell for two more hours. When we finally arrived, we took our swim test, packed our bags, and met our captain. His name is Russel and he seems pretty chill. After flags and dinner we sailed out. As I'm writing this we are slowly heading away from the base and out into the ocean...
