Traquair Gate
This is the gate where the bird I blipped on 5th July sits on the top curlicue on the right.
A nearby plaque informs us that, designed by Phoebe Anna Traquair and with technical help from architect Frank Mears, the gate was made in 1924 by Thomas Hadden, the leading decorative wrought-iron worker in Scotland, for the Colinton house of Edinburgh printer Walter Biggar Blaikie.
Again, this is only part of the work to be seen from Bridge Street but see more detail in large.
To exercise my knee, we went for a walk by the Water of Leith, beginning from here; got as far as Saughton Park, via a coffee-stop at the W-O-L visitor centre, then returned on the bus.
