An Old Airman's Life

Piles and piles of DVDs

I work for a little airline data firm in Dallas. For twenty years, we provided our data almost exclusively on CDROMs. For the past five years, we have been trying to transition to an online version of our databases. We have met with limited success. Some of it is our fault. Some of our customers don't want to learn anything new. So here we are stuck making tons of DVDs and shipping them all over the world.

This week is my hell week. All our datasets were updated in the past couple days. I will be making seemingly endless numbers of DVDs. Someday soon, I suspect that technology will force us to dump the DVDs. Many computers don't even have DVD drives. As long as computers have USB ports, I suspect some of our customers will be having USB DVD Drives.
