Newness
After yesterday's utter blimp, today has been utterly marvellous :)
Took the train into London for bean's fetal heart scan (routine thingy, 'cause I'm diabetic) - he didn't dive out of view (unlike Ben did!), and so they got a good view of his heart and it's all hunkydory and we don't have to go back hurrah - and while we were there, happened upon this little salon called "why not" and we thought indeed, why not? So I got my hair cut!!!
Y'know, I'm more and more convinced that God is big enough to care about the little things as well as the big things. I'd been talking about getting hair cuts on the train, saying I really didn't want an "english" haircut, wanted a non-english stylist, somebody who could give me a bit of a different flavour. And I got a lovely Japanese lass to do my hair! Who did a BRILLIANT job, was so completely excited about cutting it all off, such a lovely girl that I'd go back into London just to get my hair done by her again!!! It's not a great picture I know, it's just a quick-fire self-portrait and I've come home and not really looked in the mirror to fix it properly, but I do love my new haircut :)
Met my brother and his wifey after that. Sue and I traipsed round the shoe shops with Steve in tow but didn't find any shoes we liked, then we met Matt at Wahaca for dinner. Oh my goodness but I never knew mexican "street food" was that good! And very low carb as well, I think I might have to make Wahaca one of my favourite restaurants. And they do the best icecream I've ever tasted. Dulche du leche icecream with crumbled chocolate. Very very very very very very gorgeous.
Ben meanwhile has had a brilliant day with his grandad. They went off to tots this morning with Ben riding his balance bike, apparently nearly ran somebody over (oops!) but dad is amazed at how confident and fast he is on it already! He had a good lunch at tots and so has hardly eaten the rest of the day :) After "lunch" at home they headed off to the beach and played with the stones, and when dad spotted the very large dark cloud coming in fast they headed home - and got here just as the rain started. Good timing :) He was off his oats for tea but had half a yoghurt, and then dad said they came into the front room and Ben had a good hour's drumming and singing, and then... then he just suddenly stopped. Dad looked round at him and he was sitting there at his drums crying! Like he'd suddenly gone very tired and wanted his mummy. Which he did. But dad told him to be a big brave boy, and so he was. Got his pyjamas on and Ben said he didn't want a story but wanted to get into bed; got into bed, dad told him to close his eyes, and he was out like a light.
My little boy..... when I hear things like that it makes my heart want to explode with love for him :o) <3 <3 <3
On the diabetes front, I suddenly realised on the train this morning that actually the things I was thinking yesterday about how frustrating it all was and how I wasn't winning this "battle" and all the rest of it, I suddenly realised that that was all lies. If you believe this kind of thing, I believe it was an attack on my spirit because of how good Sunday had been, the stuff about finally feeling like I was "me" again, feeling so connected to God and recognising the gifts and talents that I've been given. So to be so disheartened and frustrated on Monday, well I guess I was got for a half a day. But the diabetes is not winning. I'm learning more and more, I just need to change my thinking a bit. I can do this. This high price I'm paying during this pregnancy, first with the sickness and now with the diabetes challenge, well, it's only going to serve to make this baby even more precious and valued.
