Flying Farmers
Well not quite, the blip shows a motorcycle stunt team which were performing in the main ring at the Royal Welsh Show in Llanelwedd today. With the show being based in the heart of Mid Wales there is a strong agricultural theme to the show, but there really is something for everyone there. According to BBC Wales Today there were approximately 63,000 people there today, and over the course of the 4 days that the show is on, it is estimated that nearly quarter of a million people will have attended the event.
It's the first time that I've been for a couple of years but I can remember going from a very young age with my grandfather and father, we're not from farming stock but it was always something we went to. Both my grandfather and father seemed to know loads of people no matter what part of the country they're in, and sure enough my father met people he knew today. It was hard going today, I think we covered most of the showground and saw most of the market stalls, and my legs are certainly feeling a bit worse for wear.
There certainly is a lot to see, you've got the events in the main ring which are predominantly cattle or horse shows, today it was the turn of the very popular Welsh Cobs which always gets a big crowd. There is also entertainment such as the motorcycle stunt team, in some of the smaller rings you've got cattle shows or events such as those run by the Young Farmers, tug of war for example. There are market stalls galore selling anything from jewellery to food to jackets and so on, and of course there are the big agricultural stands with tractors and other farming equipment.
They come from far and wide to attend the show, for example an administrator we employed on one of our contracts in Scotland was preparing to come down for the week to show her horses. And just listening to the accents around today you had people from Scotland, Ireland, Yorkshire and the South East of England.
So if you've never been to the Royal Welsh Show I would recommend you try it, even if its just once, you never know you may be pleasantly surprised.
