The weather forecast for the weekend is 'lots of thunder' but today was set to be warm and sunny so we took a day trip to Fredrikstad.
The old town (Gamlebygen) was very pretty but with the harsh light in the middle of the day, not much of a photo opportunity. So instead you have a bridge.
Now, if you want to build bridges over waterways which are used by large ships, you have two choices: move the bridge out of the way when you build it or when the ships come. This one takes the first strategy and is impressively high when you are on it. There are two other bridges in the port area which take the other strategy, including one small, light pedestrian bridge which is pushed upwards with giant pistons!
In building, I am a fan of the first strategic style (design out need for further ad hoc actions), but in management I prefer the second (build in flexibility).
