Welsh Wales!

So, tomorrow is Mrs BH's big birthday, and her birthday surprise started when I met her fromthe train as normal, and headed down the M5, over the Severn Crossing (£5.70!) and on to Cardiff for the night. We stayed in the St David's Hotel and Spa, and at the risk of sounding like an advertisement, it was a fantastic night. The hotel is right on cardiff bay - all the rooms have a glass wall overlooking their own balcony overlooking the sea. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable (we nearly lost Mrs BH in the bath!), the staff are quietly attentive and friendly. It was pretty much exactly what you'd want from a nice hotel.

We walked from the hotel to Mermaid Quay - all of about 8 minutes around the docks - and were spoilt for choice of eateries, and eventually went back to the first one that we'd gone into - Mimosa - again, highly recommended. If the serving staff can tell you which of the pestos in which meals contain parmesan then you know that they're well trained and interested in the food they're serving. And the food itself lived up to the hype.

Mermaid Quay is across the plaza from this place - the Cardiff Millennium Centre - fab architecture, eh?

With full tummies we went back to the hotel and watched the lights for a while before falling asleep to the radio!
