Today's the day ..................... for an invention

My mother is a very resourceful woman - you don't get to be 91 years of age without learning a thing a two.

Why would you climb up and down quite a steep flight of cement stairs every time you needed to put some rubbish in the wheely bin - when you can invent a stick with a sort of hook-thing on it that will neatly lift up the lid of the bin from the top of the steps, so that you can just lob the rubbish in from there?
