Who does not love real mail, the old-fashioned kind with an envelope, maybe on real stationery and the feel of good paper, a hand-written address and sometimes scribed with fountain pen ink, or the so exciting thin blue airmail envelopes. These old mailboxes are at the head of our dock as we gave in several years ago to a totally ugly locking set because several people on our dock have their own business and with several incidents of mail theft and stolen checks - sad situation and sad change smart change.
But we kept these in their original position as they are so lovely. I heard on the news that the US Post Office must close many offices in the mid-west, and has already laid off thousands of postal workers. This is a significant cultural loss, this loss of real mail and real mail delivery jobs.
