It's Open - But Where Are The Fish?
We received The Royal Museum Summer Newslettter this morning, the very morning that the museum reopens - that was close! Fortunately we had remembered and, as planned, we braved the crowds and went along to see what improvements have been made.
Hmm.
What a shame the fish tanks have been removed, there didn't seem to be anything as interesting in their place. I hope they''re happy in Glasgow.
I was unimpressed by the number of young people reaching out and touching the animals as though they were in a petting zoo, with no control from parent or indeed supervisors, I wouldn't have been surprised to see a child climb onto the plinth and sit on one. Perhaps the excitement was just too much. It was extremely noisy.
That aside, the addition of lifts and escalators will certainly give better access to the upper floors.
On Tuesday we'll be there again for the Members' evening when, I hope, the various improvements will be explained and we can look again with new eyes (and ears).
