Rhineland in Perthshire
Spent the afternoon on Kinnoull Hill near Perth. Weather was glorious and so were the views.
Kinnoull Tower, which perches on the edge of the cliffs up here, and which can be seen from the A90 below, is allegedly a a copy of the watchtowers found along the Rhine in Germany, and was built in the early 19th century by the 9th Earl of Tay because the vista from here reminded him of a view of the Rhine that he had seen on a German tour. Looking down at the Tay from up here you can see why you could mistake this for Rhineland. I love the way the river meanders wide through the landscape here.
