No time to waste?

Wee, cowrin', hideous beastie...

Sorry Rabbie, and sorry pigeon fanciers. I am a bird lover, but can't find much attractive about this baby feral pigeon.... Sadly it's not likely to be alive by the morning.

Went out at 8.30 to pick Jem up from work, and heard a juvenile bird wheezing and crashing around the front garden. Came home at the back of 9, and it was more than half-way up the stairs to our first-floor flat! Think it probably tried to fly out of a nest on the roof, and crash-landed. First job - blip it, of course. Even managed to adjust the flash to something a bit more manageable (maybe one day before I'm dead I'll start to understand flash photography).

Second job, get it somewhere a wee bit safer. Maybe. Couldn't really bring it into a small flat which already contains a rabbit (particularly if there was any possibility of fleas!), so tried to pick it up once I'd got some gloves on. It was pretty frisky, and I couldn't contain the wings. With a tea towel and some coaxing, got it down the stairs and into the back garden. At least there its parents might be able to feed it and get it to fly. Hopefully before the cats/foxes/sparrowhawks get it. I doubt the buzzards will, not on the back doorstep.

EDIT - just checked from the bedroom window, half an hour later, and it's gone. No sign in the garden at all, and no sign of any struggles. I suspect it has made good its ecscape. But we'll probably never know!
