Anni Mamundi

Almost 800 years old...

... I saw that there was a tour (in English) at 3pm on Wednesdays, around St Michael's in Vienna.
I deposited myself at the appropriate door at a few minutes to three. And smiled (in a British kind of way) at anyone who looked as though they may be either English or a tour guide.
To no avail.
Until 3.10., when a very nice historian arrived and asked (somewhat disappointedly I felt) whether I was here for the tour. I (quite Britishly) offered to go away, but she (bless her cottons) gave me an entire tour of St Michael's on my own.
It was AWESOME! Best tour ever!
I saw SUCH treasures. She suggested I opened cupboard doors (!) which revealed more treasures! I saw the 'parts' of Saints, no longer on display as relics 8-/
And I was taken behind the altar, which was just astonishing, in terms of the treaures one doesn't see from the front/roped-off bit.

Floated back to the hotel. Met Himself (who'd been working hard) and had a splendid evening in the hills nearby, with amazing 360 degree views of the Danube.
The image is of some original decoration in St Michael's. They only uncovered it in 1980. Apparently it caused much thrill. (Isn't it pretty?)
