The loneliness of the cross bridge cyclist
When does one become a bit of a vertigo sufferer. They say that it is linked to eyesight and an inability to judge distances correctly. My eyes are not bad, had glasses recently but I was advised that I'd pass the driving test eyesight test without them, and I think I am fairly good at judging heights. So maybe I am the exception which confirms the rule.
We walked on to the Forth Road Bridge today and the height is quite scary, I steadfastly walked along the line normally separating pedestrians and cyclists. The rattling of the bridge as lorries cars and the general traffic was quite unnerving. The gap between the slabs of concrete on which we were walking and through which the sea below was visible, was likewise, quite unnerving. The sign to call Samaritans for those in need of help was not confidence inspiring. The whole experience was quite, erm unpleasant. The last time I cycled across the bridge I was 13 and the height didn't bother me at all.
We saw friends today who are slowly preparing for the arrival of child #2, very exciting times.
