The dashboard is a convenient footrest.
Today's picture is somewhat unrelated to the rest of my post...Normally I hate chipped nail polish, but since I wear flats to work and my toes are always hidden, I've found that it's easy to forget to repaint them. Since my feet were cold from the AC, I was sunning them on the dashboard in an extremely unladylike manner when my brother asked why my pinkie toe wasn't painted. I told him it's a trend now to fully paint your big toe, only paint half of the nails for your middle three toes, and to totally leave out your pinkie toe. He stared at me, on the verge of believing my story, before my mom ruined it by bursting into laughter.
On a divinely-inspired whim, I volunteered to lead Sunday school today. With my neurotic personality, it wouldn't be surprising for me to spend too long preparing and then worrying over how well the lesson is going to go. This time, with every day leading up to Sunday fully booked, I found myself preparing for only an hour and a half while eating breakfast the morning before. And I was okay with it.
I got to church and found that Bryan, a pastor my church is considering hiring to work with our youth, and his three kids were there too. Despite this added pressure, still no worry.... I was almost getting a little worried that I wasn't worried.
We focused on the first chapter of 2 Samuel, and since the second half of the chapter is a beautiful poem that David wrote about Saul, it was a perfect opportunity for close reading. I treated leading Sunday school like I was leading a seminar in a literature class (miss those days back in high school...), which was a change for some people given that we usually read passages with the big picture in mind. Mainly because it's a very American approach to reading the Bible and very not Chinese. All things considered, it went pretty well. And I have newfound appreciation for how difficult it is to lead a class.
