Corvatsch Berg Station & Silvaplana
Another walk down the Engadin and alongside Silvaplana. A thoroughly beautiful lake (as are all the lakes here) - and I was pleased to hear that they don't allow any motorboats on these lakes. You're only allowed to row or sail. It's a nice touch.
After the walk along the lake, taking in a little detour to see a great waterfall with some tremendous balanced stone decoration, we headed up on the cable car to the mid station. It was not a good trip for me, I had my heart in my mouth for most of it as it pitched alarmingly. However, after twenty minutes I made the decision that I wouldn't be put off by the vertiginous pitch up to the Berg Station and we were going to do it.
The journey up was awesome - emphasised as the other cable car whizzed past at what seemed like a hundred miles an hour (160kmph). The berg station is 3303 metres up. That's the highest I've ever been without flying. Alas the weather closed in a fair bit and restricted the views to fleeting glimpses of improbably steep cliffs and long arcing ridges. I loved it a lot.
The journey down on both cable cars was fine. I was standing and not holding on to anything. I felt balanced. A lovely end to the holiday.
