Im-peck-able
Wisbech isn't the best place in the world, let's face it (apologies to any blippers from Wisbech). A remote fenland town that could quite easily succumb to the perils of sea level rise.
Its one saving grace, and a big grace at that, is a sweeping Georgian street alongside the River Nene. In this National Trust themed weekend we went to Peckover House, a stately affair owned for several generations by an influential and community minded family.
I'm always more intrigued by what goes on in the servants' quarters than upstairs for some reason. One thing I learnt today was that eggs could apparently be stored for up to two years in a bucket of some watery solution, because their pores are blocked and nothing grimy can get to the inside of the egg. Dubious about tasting an omelette made from 24-month old eggs.
