NOMA Sculpture Garden
We had some time in NOLA this morning before our flight so we decided to see how City Park was recovering. We were planning on visiting the botanical garden, but ended up at the NOMA sculpture garden instead. It's a very nice sculpture garden with quite a variety of work. Much of the work used to be at the K&B building on St. Charles Avenue. It always generated a lot of comments...most of them negative.
This was one of my favorite sculptures. It was one of the only ones with an explanation posted next to it, which probably means that it was controversial. I can't remember the exact explanation, but you can see that it's a man hanging upside-down by his feet.
I'm sure the theme is something like, "man's inhumanity to man." That's always a safe bet.
I know it sounds like I'm being a smartass, but I really liked this sculpture and the garden as a whole. There are a few places where the sculptures feel just a bit crowded, but overall it's quite nice. You should go see it. Unless you're offended by men hanging upside-down.
