Paper Doll
The Paper Doll Militia are performing This Twisted Tale at Out of the Blue down in Leith. This morning's photocall however was in a derelict building the other side of Leith Walk. A location much used by my fellow students over the past year as I've seen it featured in several different photoshoots. The main element of the photocall was supposed to be the two stars of the show, Rain, shown here, and Sarah doing some acrobatics on a couple of chains that their tech guy had rigged up from the roof. As people were arriving (the interesting location was clearly a draw as there was a sizeable press pack) there were a few set up shots of Sarah in a rubbish bin (!) At which point several press photographers obviously got the idea they'd like to be fashion photographers and there was way too long spent getting the two of them to pose in different positions. Bit of lack of direction perhaps. Still, at last they moved over to the chains, and there were some striking images of one or other, or both hanging from the chains. Looked like hard work, and again photographers seemed to happily ask them to adopt this pose or that one as they hung twenty feet up in the air. I liked this image, perhaps less dramatic than some, and if any images do make the press it's unlikely to be one like this. For me it has echoes of the classic movie still from Wim Wenders' Wings of Desire of the now sadly dead actor Solveig Dommartin. (She was born a couple of years before me but died aged just 45 in 2007).
This is what I meant. The Guardian used this image from the photocall.
