Vinegar And Brown Paper

Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water
Jack fell down and broke his crown
And Jill came tumbling after.
Up got Jack, and home did trot
As fast as he could caper
He went to bed and bound his head
With vinegar and brown paper.

What I never knew about this Nursery Rhyme until today was that it told a gruesome tale:-
Jack and Jill story - The French (history) connection!
The roots of the story, or poem, of Jack and Jill are in France. Jack and Jill referred to are said to be King Louis XVI - Jack -who was beheaded (lost his crown) followed by his Queen Marie Antoinette - Jill - (who came tumbling after)

My blip for today, is NOT from the Horse Driving Trials I said I was attending, but from my dining table!

This morning we got up at 6 and were within minutes of having got the caravan and minibus packed for leaving for the show. I was in the kitchen and heard The Man shout. Oh, what has he dropped? I thought. Better go and offer to help pick it up!

I went to the kitchen door and saw what had fallen - The Man, himself. I ran and found him with his head against the Barra Harl (sharp crushed shells set in concrete) garage wall. I could see a pool of blood under his head. He was conscious but confused. The back of his head was covered in blood so I helped him up, put him in the car while I locked everything up.

The local hospital decided he needed to go up to the city Infirmary to be checked out. Had to phone Chippy to say our plans would be delayed. He joined us just at the time the nurse was telling me that there was no way we could go away today. The Man was to have complete rest for 24 hours.

Chippy phoned the Show office to say we couldn't exhibit and tonight we're making the best of it by eating up the food, drinking the drinks and watching the DVDs we would have had if we'd been away.

So glad you're feeling better now, That Man!
