South Island Pied Oystercatchers

Odd day at the beach today, cloudy but not cold, not a lot of birds around the edges, seemed to be on the islands in the middle, although the tide was reasonably high. there are more islands since the earthquake, maybe that makes a difference.

These oystercatchers were roosting near the edge but the tide was still coming in and occasionally there would be a bigger wave and the ones at the edges would lift off to find a place further up the beach.

Not really happy with this, the birds aren't quite in the right place, needed to be a little further towards the left, but with wildlife, sometimes you just have to take what you can get!

Only had a short time, as was really there for a Trademe dropoff, but any excuse to see the birds is good enough for me.
