Rain here today - as elsewhere I gather. I ventured out this afternoon, with the intention of going to the National Gallery to watch people looking at art. But there was a queue onto the street as all the tour buses dropped their soggy tourists for an indoor dose of culture. So I went to the Rådhuset, where there were also plenty of tourists sheltering from the rain, but not quite so many and it absorbed them better.
Finished reading John Berger's Ways of Seeing. Even if his art-historical claims are exaggerated and distorted by the lens of his Marxism, there are many interesting insights in the book. I was particularly struck by the comparison of oil painting and colour photography in their ability to turn mere things into objects we want to touch, hold, possess.
P.S. This is taken in the hall where they award the Nobel Peace Prize.
