The Goodbye Moment
On the last morning of Christian family camp, at Campus By the Sea on Catalina Island, taking a family photo is the final thing we usually do. Some years we've had the whole family with us and we all gather around the sign. This year it was just the three of us.
The photo of us is not great -- the wind was blowing my hair; the sunlight was too bright on Mr. Fun; and Tristan looks distracted -- but this moment is now captured forever and when Tristan is 14 or 24, he'll be able to look at this and remember a Catalina Island moment at Christian Family Camp with his great-grandparents.
Tristan and Great-Grandpa Fun read through the entire Bible together this week. The Jesus Storybook Bible was introduced at the beginning of the week and Mr. Fun found it in the camp bookstore and bought it for Tristan. He loved it and everytime Grandpa Fun read to him, Tristan would ask for another story and another. Pretty soon they had read through the entire book. We heard from other campers that their kids loved it too! Grandpa and Tristan read through several other books this week too.
After the photo session, the bell rand, as the big boat arrived; the pier was lined with luggage, soon we were all on the boat and all our luggage was too. Everyone was waving goodbye and more than a few tears were wiped from eyes as the boat turned toward the Port of Los Angeles to take us all home. An hour later we arrived at San Pedro and our daughter and son-in-law were there to get us home.
It's been a grand week for the three of us.
That's it from Family Camp for Summer 2011.
Rosie (& Mr. Fun, and Little 4-year-old Tristan), aka Carol
