55 Years Renewing Vows
Romance isn't as photogenic after 55 years, but today's vow renewal celebration had a glow all of its own. Last year on their 54th anniversary Jim knew that he wanted to marry Marlene again for their 55th wedding anniversary. So as he drove her to Las Vegas to see some shows and celebrate, he played the Glimpses CD of Danny Oertli's song "Will You Marry Me Again?" and then asked her as they journeyed to Vegas, "Will you marry me again next year on our 55th anniversary?"
He told us later her response, "If I don't have to wear my wedding gown." She didn't want to spend a year dieting! Ha! Who would?!
So today their family and friends had the privilege of watching and listening as Jim & Marlene recited their vows. I felt a lump in my throat as I listened to Jim get choked-up, his voice quiver, and his eyes glisten as he spoke his words of love and commitment to her.
Yes it lacked the glitz and the glitter of two young things in sleek bodies dressed in expensive finery, but it didn't lack in romance and genuine love that builds through work, hardship, and endurance. It was a grand and rare moment.
Good night from Southern California where the full moon has just appeared.
