Falconry in metal
Behind the shops along Great North Road in Grey Lynn is an open space used for car parking. There is also one small old brick building which is the workshop of Andrew Palace, a local artist who works in recycled metal.
This morning I chose to run along past here, and then briefly divert into this area and take some pictures of his workshop, which bears his label; Metal as Anything. Very obviously, both sign and bird are examples of his work. Further examples of his work were seen in my blip of two months ago, which featured an exhibition of his lamps.
I have not been past here during weekday hours, and have not seen inside. The shop which featured in my previous blip is now used by some other retailer. This building is looking unused, and it would be a pity if he has stopped working.
Today was the birthday of my lovely S, and there was much family interaction. iChat with son in Sydney; afternoon tea with daughter in Auckland, telephone call with daughter in London, and a dinner organised by S' brother. Her mother was also able to be there. Only just back home.
The day was also marked by S being one of the five poets reading at a special celebration of the first anniversary of the opening of the gallery and cultural centre at Pah Homestead, where she read four weeks ago. Not only was I impressed and proud, Peter Bland was very positive about her work.
