Hales Bar

This is the oldest pub in Harrogate, first established in the mid 17th century when visitors first came to the spa town for the 'medicinal waters' (not in the pub, from the wells!). Rebuilt in 1827 as a coaching inn, and known as The Promenade Inn'. Enlarged in 1856, it became 'Hodgson's' until 1882 when William Hales became the landlord.

The main saloon bar still has some interesting features and fittings from the Victorian era, including traditional gas lights and cigar lighters!

The bike on display outside is a Ladies Raleigh Bicycle dating from around 1935. When new it cost £3.00!
