Sand Sculptures

The 79th Annual Long Beach Sand Sculpture contest was held near where I play volleyball every Saturday morning. It was pandemonium by the time I arrived as the teams were attempting to finish before the 2:00 PM deadline and the crowds were jockeying for position to take photos and gawk at the creations in front of them. I have been watching Sand Masters on the Travel Channel and was looking forward to seeing sculptures like they produce, but these were much more modest. It makes sense as these teams had only five hours to sculpt and there were no forms used to build up the starting sand pile.
