SHORT STRAW

I picked the wrong week for my holiday. It coincided will Freddie's annual visit to the vet for his booster injection, and I was volunteered to take him. He doesn't seem to notice the injection, probably because he is in a state of abject terror, but the constant yowling all the way there and all the way back in the car is unbearable.

The vet was a new one since last year, and although his arms were heavily scarred with recent scratches, he only looked just old enough to have qualified. Perhaps his skin will toughen up.

He sorted Fred out with his injection, popped a worming tablet down his throat, and gave him a clean bill of health. He then gave me a bill and I was hard-pressed not to gasp. But fair enough, someone has to pay for all those scratches.

As we were leaving a puppy was on its way in because he had swallowed a sock. Hope he is okay, and his owner did not have to remortgage the house to pay the bill.
