an itching in my thumbs

Old

no drinking tonight for me despite being at a party where that is the theme.

a friend from high school (another one, yes, this is how it works when you go back to the place you were born, raised - every day another person to slightly mess with your sense of reality) also has a birthday this week. i promised to stop in despite feeling unwell today, what a bummer.

i didn't stay too long; i felt old. i know i've always hung out with people that tend to have about five to ten years on me, sometimes a few more - everywhere i move this is how it usually rolls. and granted i am the last person to assume age means anything, i don't even consider it a factor in being friends with anyone, but i rarely have a good friend my age or younger (though they do exist!).

anyway, this was the exact opposite of last night, i felt so old and grandmotherly - missing the bar and the close quarters and the light drinking, nothing over the top.

i was there about an hour and a half, mostly talking with two other friends from high school i hadn't seen - catie & jeremy. this is all so crazy to see these people again, like an odd film played backwards.

separate note: i realized that not only does my family have a disproportionate number of birthdays in august, but so do my friends. last night's gathering, come to find out, included not just me, taylor, and leah as recent birthdays (18th, 8th, 9th of august respectively) but also taylor's boyfriend stuart (16th) and matt (4th). combined with my friend haley tonight (24th), my grandmother and aunt (17th), my grandfather (13th), my cousins (one on the 3rd, one on the 21st, one on the 23rd) make 11 birthdays.

of course, i have lots of friends all over the calendar, but i think august takes the cake for most close friends and family, by far.

anyway, to bed, to get up in the morning and run and feel very old compared to these three (four?): brad, lance, connor.
