Harlequin

The Harlequin Ladybird (Harmonia axyridis) originates in Asia but was introduced to Europe and North America to control aphids. As frequently happens there are emergent properties of this action and they include this little rascal invading homes because they overwinter in crevices and wall spaces and they are out-competing indigenous species including our domestic seven-spot ladybird. One way in which they are very smart is that when they die they release a chemical which attracts their friends.

Anyway - there are loads in the garden just now and they are pretty so they'll do for today's blippage. Enjoy your Sunday, I'm heading back into the garden.
