Spurn Light
So far as I know, no longer operational, Spurn Lighthouse was serving as an occasional photo gallery. It was shut today though and not many signs of occupation but someone seems to have replaced windows and removed shutters.
The paint is flaking off in places but the fabric of the building looks good. The bricks are those rock hard engineering ones and where they are exposed, have a lovely deep purple hue.
As much as I am a fan of lighthouses I wouldn't want to marry a lighthouse keeper!
The walk from Kilnsea, round Spurn Point and back is about 10 miles but it's all flat and fairly easy going if you pick a line on the harder wet sand. Also good was one of the RNLI ladies was running and informal 'tea room' out of her front garden so we had a cuppa to go with the pack up the landlady had done for us.
Also providing entertainment are the Humber Pilot boats escorting shipping in and out through the sand banks.
There are so many photogenic things in the area it was difficult to pick just one to blip but this one will do.
