Not a bad day at the office...

I've been on a work trip to Belize. This is West Snake Caye, within the Belize Barrier Reef complex, the longest reef in the western hemisphere. We were investigating the impact of conservation work that was funded by Fauna & Flora International (FFI), who I work for. Dam developments upstream would have altered this unique lagoon, desert island and coral reef ecosystem through sedimentation and altered water flow and quality. In such a small country as Belize, so much activity upriver can affect coastal waters, and the amount of life on Belize's reefs is simply staggering. Through the Rapid Response Facility of FFI we sent funds quickly for our local partner organisation to support a community campaign to stop dam development, which so far has been successful.

It wasn't AS idyllic as it seemed as the sandflies were voracious. I'm still furiously itching now, over a week later.
