i got in a RIB and set out 55 miles due west from Leverburgh and ended up here via a quick trip round Borerary - without the cloud in our case - but my camera was tucked away in the safety box and I couldn't get it out. anyway, how do you take a convincing photo of cliffs which are the height of the Empire State building? and with this man on board, it's hard to feel that you're taking decent photos - the only thing to do is just take in the experience. but those birds wheeling above your head is an extraordinary sight.
we sped into Village Bay and carried bags and baggage up to the Factor's House where half of us were to sleep while the others slept in a dormitory in one of the reconstructed houses - as it was an 11:1 male to female ratio, i didn't need much persuading to take one of the rooms
there was just time for a low light walk up on to the shoulder and on to Oiseval - adjectives fail me.. to walk up a hill that looks like it is a rounded beast, in the expectation that the view from the top will reveal the other side, only to find it has no back, as if cut with a sharp blade...
and everywhere, cleitsthese scattered in the most unreachable and unexpected corners
we drank a bit and ate a bit and went to bed. still slightly unbelieving our luck to be there
