Ramblings and Mutterings

Peace

Sunday a day of peace! It was certainly was for me today, I've done very little today apart from reading, blogging, planning and researching. Ok, that doesn't sound all that peaceful does it but trust me it was a peaceful day, and besides it was definitely nothing to do with my job.

I did venture out as well and I've just come back from an outdoor service for the churches and chapels in the community, a great time of fellowship. In these times, especially recently, the "community spirit" seems to have been lacking, and so it has been good to meet up and show that it is still possible to work together for the good of the community. Let's not get carried away and think that everything is rosy in the garden though, because quite clearly it is not, but we have an opportunity to make a difference if everyone works together.

Took this shot on the way back home, just love the clouds and the sky. Sometimes the simple ones are the best!

On a day of Peace a poem of Peace from Henry Vaughan, (1621-1695)

My Soul, there is a country
Afar beyond the stars,
Where stands a winged sentry
All skilful in the wars;
There, above noise and danger
Sweet Peace sits, crown'd with smiles,
And One born in a manger
Commands the beauteous files.
He is they gracious friend
And (O my Soul awake!)
Did in pure love descend,
To die here for thy sake.
If thou canst get but thither,
There grows the flow'r of peace,
The rose that cannot wither,
Thy fortress, and thy ease.
Leave then thy foolish ranges,
For none can thee secure,
But One, who never changes,
Thy God, thy life, thy cure.
