The man and his goat (Yeremche)

This was more like it! Right in the heart of the mountains. A little touristy, yes, but in the mountains! And I could argue that the tourism aspect was just a little added interest because all the tourists were either Ukrainian or Russian. So it was fun to see how they go about it.

We turned up to a guesthouse that had been recommended by a certain book. The owners spoke no English but that didn't matter, we got a double room that looked as if it had come straight from a Swiss mountain cottage. The difference being that if it was in Switzerland it would have set you back about a hundred quid each a night rather than ten.

You just had to look out the window to see the mountains. Something we had been trying to find for the last 3 days. We were also able to do nerdy, nature stuff. Visiting waterfalls, caves and forests.

It was also the first time we were exposed to the wedding traditions of Ukraine when we turned up to the waterfall. I'm not kidding when I say we saw 4 different bride and groom couples, with all the extras in tow, being filmed and photographed in strange positions. It was almost as if each couple was trying to out-wed the others. It seems that it is normal tradition for the bride and groom to parade each other around after he wedding. Showing off the tack dresses and questionable tuxes. (We once saw a gangster themes wedding. No. Joke.)
