Maine, The Way Life Should Be

An old state slogan.

A collage of canvas, book and stone to herald our quick trip to the old homestead. Great Aunt Abbie(painting in progress) in the upper left passed the family house inherited from her parents down to my mother, her niece. My mother willed it to my brother and me and we plan to do the same for his children. A lovely 1840's Cape on a steep hill overlooking the brackish Machias River, the beautiful Machias Bay, the Gulf of Maine, the briney Atlantic Ocean.

There is a particular dialect in Downeast Maine and a very dry sense of humor. The old timers still sound like this, especially those with the particular whistle that comes with loose dentures.

Have a listen...this is a story that always makes me laugh and I'm pretty good at reciting it, accent and all myself when encouraged...

Last year featured a Machiasport blip also I see, and another pesky hurricane was lurking. He was harmless, just unbelievable humidity and rain.

For the Record,
This day came in sunny with increasing clouds.
