Peace

As a young girl, Sadako Sasaki became ill as a result of her exposure to radiation after the Hiroshima atomic bomb was dropped.

She wanted to be healthy again, so she tried to fold a thousand paper cranes. In the end her friends and classmates helped her to fold the cranes.

Sadako said of the cranes, "I will write peace on your wings and you will fly all over the World".

Today paper cranes are the international symbol of peace.

Today, as my daughter and I walked around the galleries at Manchester Museum, it was this exhibit that had the most profound effect on me.
